I quit

I'm quitting Ashtanga. That's right, you heard me. What's the f'ing point anyway? I can't tell if my crazy life is forcing me to drop my yoga practice, or if my lack of a yoga practice is causing my crazy life. Any thoughts?

T (12 year old FSC) asked a girl to a dance. How freaking cute is that?????

Quit now if you want. You'll be back.

Yoga is one of few things you can do that aren't chock full of craziness though. So give it up at your own risk.

You can always practice at home with the cyber-shala mates!

we don't care what you wear,
even if it's underwear!
we don't care how you bend,
when you're a cyber-friend.
do 10 salutations or just three,
home studio is fun for you and me!

I hate that you're right, Carl!

Cody, the problem is that I actually HAVE to practice at home and I am very attached to the energy of a classroom or shala. Clearly the test here is to learn to enjoy my solo home practice, which I do not enjoy. Usually it's just tolerable.

wasn't someone going to design us some cybershala unders?

I don't enjoy home practice either! POO!

BUT. for some reason, lately, up here in CT, I have enjoyed practicing on my own.

I plan on trying music next, to spice it up... I'll let you know how it goes...

Please don't quit....yoga will balance your life...

I use all kinds of crazy music at home. If it feels good, you should do it. And get to the shala when you can.

Also if it makes you feel better I quit ashtanga at least once a month. Sometimes twice. And, God, how many times have I quit the shala?

xxx.

there's obviously not much i can say that hasn't already been said, though i CAN ad that my 'quitting' yoga has become much easer to bare since i accepted there are and will be interruptions in my practice. sometimes for just a week or two, sometimes for months or even years. but i know i will always come back, so i've stopped punishing myself for it!

you're so hard on yourself! a little ahimsa maybe?

OK, I'm only quitting until Sunday. Unless Ladies Holiday hits between now and then.

And I want cyber-shala unders!

Hi LIA
I enjoy my home practices. I do a lot of things to make them enjoyable - and not all at the same time. I put some insence, dim the lights, take a shower before, pass the duster that picks up hair and dust through the floor, etc. Using ear plugs makes it easier to listen to the breath to stay focused. Then on Sundays I go to the shala.
Cheers,
Arturo

Arturo,

I think I will probably start following that plan myself. It is simply too expensive to go into the city in the morning and work there just to practice yoga. If I calculate it, it costs almost $50 per class, including parking, train ticket, and class fee. I just need to get into a routine. Hopefully once we move and I have a better space to practice in at home, I can be more dilligent.
